On Thursday, May 20, 2021, a three-hour event on Cyprus Economic Diplomacy and innovation was held at the premises of the Atsas Training Center, in Katydata.
His Excellency, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, and chiefs of foreign diplomatic missions in Cyprus, honored the event with their presence. The welcome addresses were given by Dr. Phrosso Hadjilucas, Director of the Atsas Training Center and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides.
The welcome addresses were followed by a brief presentation on “Cyprus Economic Diplomacy Strategy” which was given by Ms. Irene Georgalla, Head of Economic Diplomacy Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The event proceeded with an introduction of the non-profit organization “Cyprus Seeds”, which supports the commercialization of academic research conducted at universities and research institutes in Cyprus. Managing Director Ms. Maria Georgiadou talked about the organization, and, later on, the Cyprus Seeds’ Teams gave presentations. Then, the guests had the opportunity to ask questions and receive answers from members of the organization, in a Q&A session.
Further on, the guests enjoyed a light dinner at the botanical gardens of the Atsas Training Center, and visited the olive grove of the atsas farm, where they were welcomed by the farm’s owner and president of the Training Center, Mr. George David. The event came to an end with the planting of a new olive grove, namely the “Diplomats’ Olive Grove”, which was completed with the participation of the guests. This was considered a highlight of the event, as the growth of the “Diplomats’ Olive Grove”, which stands in the UN Buffer Zone, serves as a meaningful symbol of partnership, unity and peace.
